FREEZING FLARE

On a cold and frosty day back in the mid 90's, not even the morning mist could prevent the glare of the sun from generating a lens flare on this photo.
The location of the small river was near Elmore.

SUBZERO PARK

This area of parkland in Port Ham looked quite picturesque when the winter weather arrived back in the late 90's. Mind you, it was a bit too cold to sit at the picnic tables!
The frozen water here is not a stream as such but is actually iced flood water sitting in a ditch.

STRANGE SNOW SCENE

There was something a bit surreal about this scene that caught my eye and made me snap it in the first place.
I think I know what it is now, seeing it again.
Viewing it as it is in the shot makes it appear like an area of a rather barren field, and yet there is something about it that doesn't seem quite right.
However, in reality it's actually a frozen pond that iced over, then had snowfall sitting on top - so it's not flat ground in the picture at all, and that's what throws you!
The rust coloured wall of plants in the middle distance are water reeds, adding to the strangeness of the image.
The location was Walham.

CHILLED DETAIL

I liked how the snow revealed a kind of repeat pattern going on with the ordinary plant life here, something you might not have noticed quite so much without the topping of snow.
The hedge above has a looping wires look, while the grass seems to have taken on the appearance of ocean waves.
Both these shots were snapped at Sud Meadow in the late 90's.

GRAZING NOTICE

This Gloucester Council notice here explained that dogs must be on a lead when sheep are grazing - but it was cattle grazing in the field when I took the picture, so perhaps they were allowed off their lead to run free amongst the cows!

WINTRY WOODLAND

This scene featuring a variety of trees covered in snow looked a bit festive to me - so I've given the image a greetings card look!
The location was on the outskirts of Gloucester in the mid 90's.

SNOW ON THE TRACKS

This stretch of railway line on the outskirts of Gloucester had snow on the tracks back in the mid/late 90's. I don't recall now if it was enough to cause disruption or if everything was still running normally, but I do know the view is looking over in the direction of Highnam, whose church spire it is you can see in the background.

ICED-IN BOAT

Not exactly an icebreaker, but anyway, here's the what happened when a small boat got stuck in the ice of a frozen pond in Walham.

THE CONCRETE BARGE

Who'd have thought that concrete could float?
Well here's the proof, the example above was iced in at the time of the picture back in the mid 90's, with the location being Gloucester docks.

FROSTY FRAMILODE

A crisp chilly winter at the river Severn near Upper Framilode.
Needless to say, I opted not to go for a swim!

HAZY CATHEDRAL

2 shots of Gloucester cathedral taken from different locations in town.
The frosty weather was accompanied by a chilly haze which made the cathedral seem 2 dimensional from a distance!

FROZEN PORT HAM

The fields here at Port Ham had flooded first, then they froze over, then they were snowed upon, so this is how they looked after that chilly sequence back in the late 90's.
The church spire you can just make out in the background is in Highnam.

COLD SNAP

Time to put more photos up.
I'll actually be stopping Cotswolds Cascade sometime this year as I don't want to get too repetitive content-wise, even although I still have around 2000 pictures to dip into.
I will be going strong for a good few months yet though, so plenty of good stuff to display.
The snap of the cold snap above, was taken on the outskirts of Gloucester, early 2000's.
