These characters were on display in a field near Apperley.
The top one was to inform passers-by of a fete that was taking place in the village hall - this was in 1996.
I'm guessing that because there is a couple in the other photo, along with ribbons & top hat, that this might have been the announcement of a wedding.
Either that, or there was a strange ventriloquist act to be performing!
