CORNER CLOTHING

This picture goes back to the late 90's and is of an old Tudor beamed shop in Newent which is still on the go called Corner Shop Designers. Their outfits are much sought after from customers worldwide so I've been told, although it's not a place I go to for my gear!

WALL FLOWERS

This is inside the Palace boundary wall at King's School in Gloucester.
The pub in the background in Pitt Street is the College Arms, which means I took this picture sometime around the mid/late 90's.
The pub has since changed to The Pelican.

HALL FLOWERS

This was taken in Newent in the late 90's and I took the picture for two reasons - firstly, I liked the display of flowers under the windows, and secondly, the building was amusingly called Toad Hall!

RAPESEED EVERYWHERE

These rapeseed fields covered a vast area on both sides of the road and when cycling alongside them it was pretty much yellow all the way to the horizon line!
The location was near Highnam Woods.

ABOVE AND BELOW

The top shot was taken around the Tibberton area and features 2 ducks sitting on a nest by a small stream.
The image under it has 2 cows hiding below some trees in bloom and was snapped in the Port Ham area.

OLD FARM GATES

The rusty old gate at the top belonged to Newark Farm and is located near Gloucester.
The abandoned farm gate in the lower shot was located at Sud Meadow and didn't seem to lead to anywhere in particular, but it did have a nice parade of daisies growing beside it.

RUSTY HAY CART

This rusty old hay cart was resting in a field near Tibberton, and judging by the tracks, it was still being used for work.

TYRE MOUNDS

Two stacks of tyres at two different locations.
The top picture was taken on a farm near Deerhurst and these ones were just piled on top of each other waiting to be used.
The image under it was captured at a farm near Awre and these ones were being used as weights to hold down a huge black plastic sheet covering a large storage of hay.

OPEN DOOR AND WINDOW

The top shot is of an old window frame that was part of a building in ruins.
The other image is of a doorway in a boundary wall that no longer had a building on the inside area.
Both photos were taken on the outskirts of Gloucester in the mid 90's.

PIPES TO NOWHERE

I found Saddam Hussein hiding in the top pipe shaft and spotted Muammar Gaddafi hiding in the lower pipe shaft, but I told both of them to beat it and go find some other shafts to hide in!
Anyway, enough of this nonsense, both of these pipes were snapped in the late 90's and were located in the Port Ham area.

KARTING IN THE COTSWOLDS

I took this picture back in the early 2000's.
It's a place called JDR Karting in Gloucester, and is still going strong today.
Tempting that it was to go for a spin in one, I opted to just settle for this snap of the interior!

URBAN COTSWOLDS

Not the usual kind of image that springs to mind when referring to the Cotswolds, but this gritty urban scene was captured in Gloucester around the mid/late 90's.
In the upper picture, the premises on the left with the Big Issue poster in the window, I think was a drop-in centre kind of place. It then changed into a hairdresser's some years later.
The shop called D&S Contact Sports sold all sorts of martial arts gear, but it too didn't survive and the corner shop premises is now boarded up.
The mosque across the road is still on the go, and I'm sure the hairdresser next to it is there today as well.
The lower photograph is a close-up of the D&S window display and has the likes of Karate, Kick Boxing & Kung Fu stuff that may interest budding young ninjas!

OFFICE BLOCK BACKDROPS

Two similar kind of shots here featuring droopy trees in front of office blocks.
The one at the top with the weeping willow was taken in Gloucester in the mid 90's and the office block belonged to the college. This building is no longer on the go now as it was demolished about 2 years ago.
The other picture with the laburnum was taken on the outskirts of Cheltenham around the early 2000's and the blue/grey glass building is still there as far as I know.

STARK GREEN

In contrast to the flowery bowling green in yesterday's image, this one here is very stark with the corrugated concrete backdrop.
It was another Gloucester based green, and although I took this snap in the mid 90's when it was being used regularly, it shut down a few years ago and the grass has been left to grow wildly whilst waiting on someone deciding what to do with the now desolate area.

COLOURFUL GREEN

The grass area in-between the yellow bushes at the back and the purple flowers in the foreground, is a bowling green belonging to a team in Gloucester.

IN WOOLSTONE

This little junction area is in the village of Woolstone.
The sign on the grass verge was for Bramley House which is out of shot to the left, and it was a business dealing in international studies. It, however, closed down a few years ago and the building went up for sale.

COBERLEY VIEW

This old stone house on the edge of Coberley had a very nice view of the surrounding countryside.

BOX WITH A VIEW

This telephone box was positioned quite high up on the side of May Hill at a place called Ganders Green.
As a consequence, it had a rather nice view looking down over the Severn Valley area, which is out of shot to the right.

THE ROLY POLY'S

After yesterday's cubes, here are a few examples of cylindrical bales of hay.
I've no idea where the top three are located actually, just in the middle of nowhere kind of thing, but the last one in the sequence I do know was situated near Blaisdon.

LITTLE AND LARGE

These bales of hay were stacked using 2 different methods.
The ones at the top were on a small scale & flat and to me they conjured up the art of Carl Andre.
The ones in the lower picture were assembled on a very large scale and so I imagined them put together by David Mach.
Nothing arty about either of course, both the work of farmers - the top location being near Newent and the bottom shot around the Maisemore area.

OPEN AIR SHELTER 2

Here's another one of those open air shelters filled with hay - this example located behind an apple tree on the fringe of Cowley.

OPEN AIR SHELTER 1

Not sure if these open air shelters have a specific name but this one here was located high up near the top of a ridge along the Cotswolds Way near Painswick.
You can see some cattle feeding at the side of the slope.

WEATHER-BEATEN BARNS

These 3 barns looked as if they had been around for quite a few decades, judging by their weather-beaten appearance, especially the lower image featuring a rather spectacular wobbly roof!
The trio were all located at the same farm on the outskirts of Highnam.

BOTH SIDES OF A BARN

I do like rickety old farm barns, and have stopped off at quite a few during my country jaunts to take pictures of some of them.
These 2 snaps above are of the same barn but seen from opposite sides.
The first one with my bike in shot shows its setting in amongst the wild growth behind a rusty gate.
The other picture displays the barn in use with a bundle of black hay bags in storage. The old yellow sheet at the back also reflects its colour and lights up various parts of the scene.
The location of this one was around the Sandhurst/Wallsworth area.

BOX COTTAGE NURSERIES

The white wooden shack in the entrance area of Box Cottage Nurseries used to sell basic food items & sweets and was the only shop in the village of Sandhurst.
I took this snap in the mid 90's but the place has since closed down and the shack and grounds sold, so not too sure what happened after that.

DENE RISE NURSERIES

This was how Dene Rise Nurseries looked back in the late 90's - a place to go for fresh fruit & veg.
It was situated on the outskirts of Blakeney, and although there is still a premises on this site selling the same kind of produce, it is now called the Severn View Garden Centre.
