You can see by the trees in the background and the fact that the field crop is still growing, that this picture was taken in the middle of summer. However, the tree in the foreground seems to be in its autumn/winter condition. Its old and gnarled appearance would suggest that this specimen has been around for many decades, so I can only assume that the tree was near the end of its life.
The location was somewhere around the Churcham area.
